Update on COLA negotiations

 

We refer to the above matter and advise that parties met again at the NEC today to deliberate on the above subject. The employer party presented that it has made a proposal for the COLA package to the Ministry of Energy which it has not yet approved and as such it could not table anything.

The Unions expressed dismay at the insensitive approach by the employer party.  The Unions further submitted that they expected employers to pay employees salaries and allowances consistent with the increased cost of living and proposed as follows:

            Transport allowance           –           $220.00

            Canteen allowance              –           $220.00

            Basic salary                          –           Fourfold

The Unions verily believe that these measures will secure a dignified life for workers in the Energy Industry. The meeting was adjourned to Thursday the 7^th of February 2019.

 In the interim, all branches are enjoined to convene emergency branch general meetings to discuss these issues and resolve on the way forward. Please ensure that a register of attendees is filled in and the record of the meeting is compiled for onward transmission to the Secretary General as soon as possible and in any event before the 7^th of February 2019.
