SUBJECT: UPDATE ON COLA NEGOTIATIONS

We refer to the above matter and advise that parties met again at the NEC today pursuant to the above.

Firstly, only three (3) members of the employers’ party attended the meeting.  The Unions interpreted it as a deliberate effort by employers to undermine the discussions on the basis of lack of quorum.  We insisted that notwithstanding the lack of quorum the employer party tables its position or offer for deliberation.  The employers’ party stated that it still awaits a mandate from its principals and as such could not table anything.

It further indicated that it may only be able to do so by the 15th of February 2019.  Accordingly, the meeting was adjourned to the 15th of February 2019.  We again made it clear that workers are now incapacitated and may fail to come to work given the spiraled transport and general cost of living.

The Union will take all the necessary measures to ensure that the employers’ party acts responsibly.  In the meantime, we are making an analysis on the resolutions from branches on the way forward.

Kindly revert to the Secretary General for any clarification.
